The first week of work went well! Waking up at 5am to go into work was an adjustment, still in progress, but it's nice to be busy and earning some money. The company (Cryofin Australia, ) specializes in cryogenic manufacturing for various industries. I'm enjoying the learning curve and after 6 months I should have enough money saved to explore the Australian coast and surf some stellar winter swell.
-A few Australian norms-
1) Speed Limits- The freeway varies between 80 km and 100km. 50 mph and 62 mph. They
have 3-4 lanes of traffic that does not move very fast in comparison to anything! The best part they have camera's on the overpasses that give out tickets starting at 5km over. Not cool. The government is very concerned with safety and they don't give much room for bending the limits.
2) Round Abouts-watch out for trams and they back up traffic for miles during rush hour!
3) It's not breakfast. It's "brekky" and they love beans with eggs. No regular dark roasted bold coffee. They serve you an "Americano" and call it coffee. They all drink "skinny lattes" served in a glass, not a mug. I get a lot of weird looks from waiters and waitresses when I order a coffee with cream. Did I tell you they don't have coffee creamer either? Now you know about coffee, or the lack of it, down under.
4) The oven- still no idea what I'm doing when I try to use it but I haven't burnt anything yet.
5) Nutella- NO COMPARISON TO PEANUT BUTTER!!
6) Work colleagues- We are definitely a diverse group! Tahiti, Korea, China, UK, Australia, America.
I still need to post some pictures of the city and will try to get a few this week. That's about it for now! We are taking a trip up to Surfers Paradise the first weekend in April and looking forward to surfing the famous Gold Coast!!

J-O-B
"When it rains it pours..."
It could be worse and I won't complain about it but I now have a couple major decisions to make this afternoon. After accepting a position with the manufacturing company I originally came out here for I now have two interviews with international recruiting firms with offices in Melbourne. I have to make a decision this evening about which role suits me best. I'm not sure if recruiting is the path I want to go down but it's definitely worth exploring. The economy in Australia is strong and was never affected by the economic downturn. This means that the recruiting industry is also strong and there are some positive differences between the US and Australian market. I'm always hesitant because I started recruiting during the top of the US market and as they say; "what goes up must come down." I must have taken that change literally because I did end up Down Under!
The manufacturing position has its benefits and would provide insight into a rapidly growing business with upside potential. It is a completely different role and required that I start at the bottom and work my way up; "a foot in the door."
I'll give the interview a go this afternoon with the Recruiting agency and then hopefully I will have enough information and guidance to make a decision. Wish me luck!

Labour Day Weekend
Adventures of the "Great Ocean Road"....
This past weekend was the Victorian State Labour Day Weekend. We decided a trip up the "Great Ocean Road" from the start, Torquay, to our end destination, Warrnambool. Saturday morning we packed the car and began the journey to our first stop along the road in Lorne. It's about a 2 hour drive along the coast and I compare it to driving up to Santa Barbara on the PCH. Lot's of surf breaks, hills, tree's and plenty of beaches. We arrived in Lorne mid afternoon and headed up to our first tourist destination, Erskine Falls. The falls were situated in what the locals call their version of a rain forest. Here are a few pics of the falls and the amazing trail that goes for about 9km back to the town of Lorne along the river. This was one of my favorite stops along the way. Very cool!

We spent Saturday night at the Lorne Hotel and had a chill evening hanging out with the locals and enjoying the scenery of the bay. It was definitely nice to get out of the city and enjoy the laid back coastal community.
Sunday morning we packed up the car and headed West along the coastal road to Kennett River to hangout with some local wildlife-Koala's. The road was very winding and reminded me of the California coast around Monterey with dramatic cliffs and lots of rocky beaches. Here are a few road pics....
The weather was damp and the Koala's weren't out and about like they would be on a sunny afternoon but we did have one sighting. He/she was just hanging out eating some eucalyptus leaves in the local campground. If you look closely you can see him hanging on the tree limbs...
After hanging out with the Koala and taking a break from the winding road we came to the next tourist attraction along the Great Ocean Road...The Twelve Apostles Marine Park. I'll let the pics explain...

There are WAVES! This whole trip there had been no waves (any worth riding) and finally we saw some! I was hoping that the swell was hitting Warrnambool since this was our final destination before heading home on Monday afternoon....
We arrived in Warrnambool (pronounced...Warn-a-bull) on Sunday afternoon and checked into our Hotel around 5pm and finished the drive with some stellar pizza and then an evening surf session. I have pictures of the surf sesh that I'll post later tonight. I met a local surfer and we both paddled out in about 2-3 foot waves with an occasional 4 footer. The weather was average but then turned to a steady rain and some local wildlife in the water cut our session short! I'll leave it at that.
That night we all decided to head up the coast to the small coastal village of Port Fairy for the local Port Fairy Folk Festival (a suggestion from the dude I paddled out with earlier that evening.)The Festival had ended but we got a chance to experience some amazing "table" music and local ism. I made up the term "table" music because that is the most simple explanation. It was a bunch of musicians in a local pub hanging out around a line up of 5 tables just jamming and the whole bar was singing along. Good times!!

That morning I had another stellar surf session and enjoyed some small but fun surf! It was definitely nice to finally catch some waves after getting skunked every weekend prior. We packed the car, ate some brekky and hit the road en route back to Melbourne via the inland route which took about 8 hours less. The scenery reminded me of Minnesota with lots of dairy farms and rolling hills. It was a stellar weekend and we'll definitely be making another trip up to Lorne and Warrnambool again before my Aussi visa expires!
